Zanzibar Queen of Sheba Legend- Once upon a time......
The Sea said to the Queen of Sheba while at high seas, "promise you return again"
She threw her Perl necklace into the Sea and the Sea said "that's not enough"
She then threw two treasure chests into the Sea which sprang open and from these treasures the Magic Islands of Zanzibar were formed...
""This is the finest place I have known in all of Africa to rest before my final journey. An illusive place where nothing is as it seems. I am mesmerized...""
David Livingstone, 1866
Zanzibar is part of the East African Republic of Tanzania.
It consists of the zanzibar Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, 25–50 km (15–30 mi) off the coast off the mainland.
There are numerous small islands and two large ones: Unguja (the main island, informally referred to as "zanzibar"), and pemba.
The capital of Zanzibar, located on the island of Unguja, is Zanzibar City, and its old quarter, known as stone town, is a World Heritage Site.
Zanzibar's main industries are spices, raffia, and tourism.
It is still sometimes referred to as the Spice Islands, a term also associated with the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, because of the significance of its production of cloves, of which it is the world leader, and also nutmeg, cinnamon and pepper.
The ecology is of note for being the home of the endemic Zanzibar Red Colobus and the elusive Zanzibar Leopard.
The word "zanzibar" probably derives from the Persian زنگبار, Zangi-bar ("coast of the blacks"); it is known as Zanji-bar (زنجبار) in Arabic.
