Area: 2,600 sq. km Tarangire National Park is in northern Tanzania, 115 km from Arusha Town. As it lies along the Arusha-Dodoma road, it is quite accessible by car. Tarangire National park takes its name from the Tarangire River, which crosses it lengthwise, giving support to a large wildlife population during the dry season. During this season, between June and October, thousands of animals including wildebeests, zebras, elands, elephants, buffaloes, hartebeests and more migrate from the dry Maasai steppe to the Tarangire River. Not surprising, lions and other predators find the place attractive. |

Tarangire, a picturesque park dotted with
baobab and acacia trees and looks most spectacular during the dry season when
many migratory species come to the Tarangire River that flows across the length
of the park. The permanent water supply of the Tarangire National Park means that during the summer, the animal population here rivals that of the Serengeti with wildebeest, zebra, eland, elephant, hartebeest, buffalo, gerenuk, fringe eared oryx and flocks of birds of many different species. Prime game viewing months are between September and December. |
