Perhaps Tanzaniašs best kept secret, Ruaha is Africa as it once was
generations ago; a spectacular and hauntingly beautiful paradise of the
natural world and truly one of the finest National Parks on the African
continent!

GETTING THERE
Coastal travels operate a scheduled flight to Ruaha every
Monday, Thursday and Saturday:
Whilst the bush camp is
not suitable for very young children, there's a concessionary rate of
US$260 per child per day, revised now for family
members under 14 years of age on the day of their arrival in camp, who
must each share with a parent or guardian. A child, at this
concessionary rate, indeed may prefer sharing a banda with both his/her
parents, thus being
incorporated into a triple bedded banda.
Guests' own personal Tour Guide/Group Tour Leader, accompanying them,
and accommodated in either a Twin or a Single, depending upon both
preference and availability, at the discretion of management, would be
US$325 per day.
We are also able to offer 'Green Season Specials' during certain
periods, as outlined on the accompanying Tariff attachment.
NB Walking in the bush is one of the greatest thrills that Africa has
to offer and is highly recommended. A couple of excellent Walking
Safari options are much favoured in Ruaha but now need to be booked
three days in advance to secure the services of a Parks' armed ranger to
accompany the group. The minimum age for a guest to join one of these
walks is 16 and a maximum of six guests can make up each walk lasting
approximately 3 hours: the charge, levied locally, is US$10 per
participant + a share of the US$25 ranger fee per group.

A land transfer can be
arranged between Iringa airport and 'Mwagusi Safari Camp',
at a cost of US$200 per vehicle each way and can be
booked at the same time as a confirmed reservation for 'Mwagusi'.
This transfer by vehicle, on interesting if not bumpy dirt
roads normally takes about 3 hours to/from the Park gate,
where clients are met by a member of the Mwagusi team.

Ruaha, one of the finest National Parks on the African continent, is a year
round destination and of course is a most
rewarding
safari experience, more especially when clients are accommodated at 'Mwagusi', perfectly situated overlooking a sand river, in a key area
prolific in wildlife.
For the 'repeat safari enthusiast' - the type of client 'Mwagusi'
invariably
suits most perfectly - an often preferred five to seven day stay, for there
is much to see and absorb in this marvelous, diverse landscape. |

|
 |
'Mwagusi' promises a special and truly memorable 'African Wilderness
Safari', for the first timer, for honeymooners (a very high level of
satisfaction), for the repeat safari enthusiast, and for those wishing
to
combine the best of
Tanzania's Northern circuit safari and its remote
south,
connecting through Coastal
Aviation's renewed thrice-weekly Arusha - Ruaha
scheduled flight.
Feedback from guests on a first visit tells us that four or five days in
camp has been really rewarding and we recommend that a first time safari
goer's itinerary incorporates a stay of certainly no less than three
days |
|
Situated in an unique transition zone, where East & Southern African fauna
and flora overlap and with its vast, unspoilt wilderness, protecting a
variety of species virtually unequalled in East Africa,
Ruaha's diversity
offers a richly rewarding wildlife experience.
Amid sculpted
rolling hills, plateau and riverine and, legendary, majestic Baobab
trees, more than 80 species of animal can be found within 45 minutes
drive from the Camp, including Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, the enigmatic
African Hunting Dog, Warthog, Roan & Sable Antelope, Greater &
Lesser Kudu, Hippo and Crocodile, huge herds of Buffalo and large
concentrations of Zebra, Giraffe and Elephant. |
 |
 |
And, the diversity
of bird life in
Ruaha, around 460 species, including visits by
northern and southern migrants, is extraordinary.
Perfectly located deep inside
Ruaha, nestled into the banks of the Mwagusi Sand River, and where the wildlife is most concentrated,
lies this small,
twelve banda safari camp (generally only nine bandas are sold),
owner-run by Chris Fox, a guide of renown, born and bred in the
region. Attractive
thatched bandas, in keeping with traditional African style, enclose
comfortably furnished tents and spacious en suite facilities. |
|
The Park's 'yellow'
season embraces the dry period June to November/mid-December and its
'green' season, generally December through till March/April.
However,
do not dissuade clients from the 'green' season, for the Park is
very beautiful during this period: one sees sizeable
aggregations (in the several hundreds) of Elephant, Buffalo, Zebra
and Giraffe, and there are more Wild Dog around in the 'green' too.
Furthermore, for birders, close to 400 species have been recognized
during this migratory first quarter of the calendar year. |
 |
 |
Ruaha's all weather
road network is very good and one can enjoy rewarding, quality
wildlife viewing in open Land cruisers, without the disturbance of
lots of other vehicles. Also, from the seclusion of your own
verandah; and during walks, accompanied by a skilled guide.
From the moment you touch down at the local airstrip, the adventure
begins!

 |
This is a spur to
your also devising for travellers a special 'North + South Tanzania'
wildlife itinerary, for clients arriving in Kilimanjaro (either
flying KLM, or PrecisionAir's increasingly popular daily NBO-JRO
connections for British Airways', Kenya Airways' and Emirates'
arrivals via Nairobi,
Jomo Kenyatta), incorporating the best of Tanzania's Northern
Circuit, plus a culmination in Ruaha at 'Mwagusi', before flying on
directly to
Dar es
Salaam,
Zanzibar,
Mafia
Island,
or
Pemba
Island,
|
|
With the growing
appeal and accessibility of Ruaha (nevertheless still very much
retaining its ideal remoteness), and the stature of this superb
Camp, this marvelous and fascinating central region of the country
is certainly one that many wildlife safari enthusiasts continually
aspire to visiting. |
