MYSTICAL MARRIAGE ON THE SULTAN’S SPICE ISLAND OF UNGUJE

The main island of Zanzibar, Unguja, offers the most idyllic and mystical environment for a wedding, allowing you to capture and imagine how Sultans and Princesses bound their love forever.

From the shores of the Forodhani Gardens, surrounded by the House of Wonders and the Sultan’s Palace, mutual vows are promised on a traditional sailing dhow witnessed by the sunset of the Indian Ocean. The ceremonies are welcomed by the sound of African Drums and rejoiced by “Ngoma” dancers.

Loved – ones and friends gather by candle light to sip champagne and feast a sultans meal
on the white sand beaches of Bet il Mtoni. The mystic of Zanzibar will fill your dance to the sound of Island Jazz.

TIMING ACTIVITY DURATION

16h00 Bride & Groom, wedding guests and minister (optional) gather at the Tembo Hotel Beach where they will board the “dhow”, at the old Sultan’s Landing, which will transfer them to their “chapel” in the ocean 20 min

16h20 Bride & Groom, wedding guests and minister are accompanied by the sound of traditional Zanzibari flute music (optional). Wedding ceremonies will take place on the deck, after which a toast with Champagnoise will be made. The Stone Town waterfront, surrounded by the Sultan’s Palace, House of Wonders, Old Fort, Forodhani Gardens and local fishing dhows, will witness the Ceremony and toast. 60 min

17h20 We hoist the sail and allow the “Kusi” winds to fill the canvas and push us north out of the Stone Town bay and past the old Dhow harbor, as we embrace the sunset overlooking Bawe and Prison Island. Our destination, Mtoni Marine Centre. 70 min
 

18h30 We disembark the Dhow at Mtoni Marine’s Beach and are welcomed to the festive sound of African “Ngoma” Drums and Dancers (optional). The dancers lead us over the white beach of Bet il Mtoni.  30 min

19h00 We are seated in the middle of the beach at a candlelit table garnished with crystal and silver and the beach naturally lit with burning torches, lanterns and open fire place. We wine and dine a four-course menu to the background sound of live jazz musicians or Zanzibari Bashraf band (optional). We dance the night away to the live beat of the Coconut Band (optional)
Transport is provided back to town. (optional)

TIMING ACTIVITY DURATION

14h30 The wedding guests gather at Mcheza Café where they will board on traditional ‘gari ya shamba, and carriage though Stone Town where they will board authentic dhows and sail to a nearby sand bank. The guests will await the arrival of the bride to be, in a chapel of palms. The bride, father and brides maid will depart from Mtoni on a ‘mashua’ boat to join the groom and guests at the sand bank. 2 hrs

16h30 Bride, groom and wedding guests are accompanied by the sound of live African Jazz music. Wedding ceremonies will take place with your feet in the sand, and toasted with Champagnoise and snacks. Open Bar for guest will provide additional refreshments. 90 min

18h00 We board the dhows, hoist the sails and allow the “Kusi” winds to fill the canvas and push us north past Stone Town bay and past the old Dhow harbor, as we embrace the sunset overlooking Bawe and Prison Island. We celebrate the union while sipping sundowners.
Our destination, Mtoni Marine Restaurant. 90 min

19h30 We disembark the Dhows at Mtoni Marine’s Beach and are welcomed with the festive sound of African “Ngoma” Drums and Dancers and beach bonfires. The dancers lead us over the white beach of Bet il Mtoni. 30 min

19h30 We are seated in the middle of the beach at candlelit tables garnished with crystal and silver and the beach naturally lit with burning torches, lanterns and open bonfires. We wine and dine to the live background music of traditional Bashraf Orchestra and then dance into the night to the live tunes of the Coconut Band.

CONDITIONS OF RESERVATION / CONFIRMATION & PAYMENT
1) Reservation will be confirmed with a 100% pre-payment of the cover charge and dinner / buffet menu cost for pre booked guests, either by a) bank transfer b) cheque, not less than 30days prior to date of wedding.
2) Additional drinks / food will be charged to the client direct and paid after the function directly

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
3) The cover charge does not change according to number of guests, as these are all fixed costs.
4) No refunds after 30 days prior to the function.
5) Documents required for religious and official ceremony on Zanzibar.
The marriage certificate issued by the Anglican Cathedral is legal and is recognized worldwide. There are however, copies of certain documents that are required in advance, and either originals or certified copies can be brought with you. Ideally you should arrive in Zanzibar at least 3 days before the actual wedding. We would require the following copies and it is suggested that you courier them across, or alternatively send by registered post (Zanzibar normal mail is unreliable).
i. Certified copy of passport from bride and groom
ii. Personal letter of intent to get married on Zanzibar, Tanzania
iii. Certified copy of birth certificate from bride and groom
iv. Copy of any previous marriage and/or divorces from both parties
v. Original certificate from country of citizenship and residence (if different from citizenship) that you are ‘free to get married’ for the bride and groom
