	There's good diving and snorkeling here, ocean paradise resort and matemwe beach retreat & lodge and shooting star inn have nearby dive centers for easy diving and snorkeling trips. In a class of it's own, tanzania's top beach destination is mnemba island – a small island about 5km off Zanzibar's east coast with one, small exclusive lodge on it taking just 20 people. You really can go barefoot all day here, Robinson Crusoe style . mnemba island costs are very high, but then it is very good, and it's almost always full! With a visitors list including Bill Gates, Naomi Campbell cost of the rooms isn't the issue to many of mnemba islands guests.
	A relative newcomer to the scene is the simple but promising pongwe beach hotel. (Don't be misled by the name: it is more of a lodge than a resort!) It stands in a shady cove of its own and is a simple, and very good-value spot, isolated and offering maximum privacy. One of our small favourates is the cristal resort. Another new comer is the arabian nights hotel. Above the stunning Kiwengwa Beach, shooting star inn has been a firm favourite for years.
	The east coast used to be the location for a holiday for most youngsters 10 years ago, but the north coast has developed so fast with roads and hotels all along the coastline and most youth prefer the north coast of Zanzibar these days. If you have more time for your stay on Zanzibar, it is recommended that you stay nights on both east coast and north coast, probably a night or two in the stone town itself too.
